V2X in the Light of MiniLED: The Key to Transformation in Traffic Communication

Rear lights in a sunset

With the widespread adoption of Highly Automated Vehicles (HAVs), critical safety risks may arise. Vulnerable road user interaction and mixed traffic are included in these risks. The barriers to the market introduction of HAVs primarily stem from concerns related to safety and human factors. Therefore, the expected new safety-critical situations need to be addressed, especially those involving human road users (HRUs). Considering that HAVs will provide independent mobility for individuals unable or not supposed to drive for any reason, AWARE2ALL will focus on underrepresented populations such as women, the elderly, sensory or physically disabled individuals, cultural minorities, and those with low digital capabilities.

The V2X communication technology used in taillights emerges as an innovation developed to achieve significant goals such as enhancing traffic safety, regulating traffic flow, and adapting to consumer habits in automobiles. FEKA will design and produce prototypes of taillight incorporating visual warning systems for all road users by creating eHMI in the Aware2All project. In this article, we will discuss the miniLED technology and V2X communication used in the taillight in detail.

The automotive industry is moving at an incredible pace, and it is following a route full of technological marvels on this journey. One of these exciting innovations is the rise of MiniLED technology. This technology, shining even in its name, offers drivers a visual spectacle when used in vehicle lighting systems. However, MiniLEDs not only emit bright lights but also make the dance of vehicles with their surroundings even more thrilling.

One of the mesmerizing features of MiniLEDs is their smaller size compared to traditional LEDs. This not only provides sharper and clearer images but also offers drivers a vision as clear as a star during night journeys. Moreover, MiniLEDs transform the driving experience into a work of art by providing more vibrant colors and deeper contrasts. This not only enhances safety but also enables stunning vehicle designs from an aesthetic perspective.

However, the allure of MiniLEDs is not limited to their visual impact alone. They also strengthen the communication of vehicles with their surroundings. For example, MiniLEDs can be used to provide information about the status or intention of the vehicle, enabling other drivers to react faster and more accurately, thereby reducing traffic accidents. Due to their small size, it is easier to create visual warning signs for V2X communication. Since the number of pixels is increased with MiniLED, the visual message intended to be given in the taillight can be better understood.

The future potential of MiniLED technology is indeed limitless. This technology can make significant contributions to the development of advanced mobility solutions such as autonomous driving and smart cities. For instance, the contributions of MiniLEDs to V2X communication can play a critical role in optimizing traffic flow and enhancing driver safety.

As mentioned above, V2X communication in taillights is a technology developed to enhance traffic safety, regulate traffic flow, and adapt to consumer habits in automobiles. This technology enables vehicles to communicate with various digital environments and systems. V2X communication in taillights can be used to attract the attention of vehicles, encourage them to be more cautious, and help vehicles better understand each other or environmental factors.

As FEKA Automotive, we are committed to developing revolutionary solutions in the field of eHMI using MiniLED technology within the scope of the Aware2All project. In particular, by integrating this technology into taillights, we aim to provide solutions to safety issues in mixed road traffic. With this innovative design, we aim to increase traffic safety and contribute to V2X communication by providing warning signs to drivers and pedestrians following predetermined usage scenarios. In conclusion, the use of MiniLEDs in taillights enhances the safety of both drivers and pedestrians and preserves the environment. Thanks to the Aware2All project, we believe that these efforts will be an important step towards introducing relevant improvements in population and mixed traffic safety.

In this sparkling journey, we believe that MiniLEDs will make your vehicle safer, smarter, and more connected. Are you ready? Turn on the lights and hit the road with this exciting technology!
