FEKA Automotive Participated in EUCAD 2025 within the Scope of the AWARE2ALL Project

Held from 13–15 May 2025 at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in Ispra, Italy, the EUCAD 2025 – 5th European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving brought together researchers, policymakers, industry stakeholders, and public authorities in the field of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM). Organized in collaboration with the European Commission, the CCAM Partnership and the FAME Project, this high-level conference aimed to share the latest advancements in the sector, discuss policy recommendations, and showcase the outcomes of ongoing European research initiatives.
As a consortium partner of the AWARE2ALL project, FEKA participated in EUCAD 2025 and presented the first physical prototype of its visual external lighting system, an external human-machine interface (eHMI) solution developed to enhance interaction between automated vehicles and vulnerable road users (VRUs). Designed for implementation in the fourth demonstration vehicle (DEMO4) of the AWARE2ALL project, the prototype was showcased in a dedicated demonstration area throughout the event.
Developed Technology: Visual Lighting System Prototype
The prototype developed by FEKA aims to establish safer and more intuitive communication between automated vehicles and other road users, especially vulnerable road users.
MiniLED-Based Dynamic Visual Lighting Module:
Integrated into the vehicle's rear combination lamp, this module provides high-resolution and dynamic visual cues—symbols and animations—to enhance traffic safety. The system contributes to the communication architecture of autonomous systems that exhibit safe and predictable behavior across different scenarios.
Through the social external lighting module, all road users receive dynamic visual feedback from the vehicle. This innovative approach transforms traditional automotive lighting into an intelligent, context-aware communication interface capable of conveying complex visual messages based on real-time traffic scenarios and use case requirements. The hardware architecture incorporates high-density MiniLED arrays with individual pixel addressability, enabling precise control over pattern generation.
The dynamic lighting control system processes contextual data via advanced algorithms that automatically select suitable visual messaging patterns based on predefined use cases. The module can autonomously adapt visual feedback to various traffic scenarios such as:
-Parking maneuvers
- Pedestrian crossings (zebra crossings)
- Vulnerable road user pick-up and drop-off situations
In addition to the visual messaging function, the rear combination lamp continues to fulfill all standard vehicle lighting functions. Validation of the communication between autonomous vehicles and vulnerable road users was conducted through real-life testing with users at FICOSA facilities.

Presentation and Engagement at EUCAD 2025
The visual lighting prototype developed by FEKA Otomotiv attracted significant interest at EUCAD 2025. Demonstrated at the exhibition booth, the prototype was introduced to visitors along with detailed explanations of its technical specifications, use cases, and its role within the AWARE2ALL project.
Through technical discussions and stakeholder interactions during the event, valuable insights were gained regarding the integration of the system into European regulatory frameworks and its applicability across diverse traffic scenarios.
We take great pride in contributing to the development of human-centric eHMI solutions within the AWARE2ALL project, supporting the advancement of automated driving systems that are safer, more understandable, and inclusive.
