AWARE2ALL Contributes to the SINFONICA Workshop at IRT SystemX

On March 18, 2025, AWARE2ALL had the privilege of participating in a dynamic and insightful workshop organized by the SINFONICA project at IRT SystemX in Paris, France. This gathering provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, explore synergies between EU-funded projects, and showcase the latest advancements in Connected, Cooperative, and Automated Mobility (CCAM).
A Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Innovation
The event brought together key stakeholders from various EU-funded initiatives, including AI4CCAM, to discuss innovative approaches in CCAM and future mobility solutions. One of the highlights of the workshop was the presentation of Demo 3 from AWARE2ALL, where our colleague Kahina Amokrane-Ferka, alongside experts from IRT SystemX, shared key insights into how internal human-machine interaction (iHMI), occupant monitoring systems (OMS), and active safety features can enhance road safety and mobility solutions.
AWARE2ALL’s demonstrator is based on a Peugeot Traveller cockpit installed in the IRTSX driving simulator with environment visualization based on SCANeR Studio environment. It is equipped with screens (cluster, central display, head up displays, steering wheel and mirrors), LEDs (side windows, windshield and steering wheel), speakers (cockpit and headrest) and driver’s seat haptic actuators. Haptic feedback in the steering wheel can also be controlled using a Sensodrive motor. This simulator will integrate various driver monitoring modules developed by the partners involved in Demonstrator 3, including the HandsOn/Off, the situation awareness, the gaze region, the Risk assessment, the decision making, transition of control and HMI manager modules.
This advanced setup in Demonstrator 3 is subjected to comprehensive testing to validate the efficacy of the active safety features and the robustness of the HMI configurations in simulated scenarios. The aim is to mimic real-world situations, providing insights into how these systems can adapt to diverse passenger distributions and respond to emergencies, particularly focusing on inclusivity for drivers with disabilities.
Strengthening Synergies in the EU CCAM Ecosystem
Collaboration between EU-funded projects is essential to fostering innovation and maximizing the impact of research and development efforts. During the workshop, participants had the chance to witness not only AWARE2ALL’s Demo 3 but also demonstrations from SINFONICA and AI4CCAM. SINFONICA presented its Knowledge Map Explorer tool, an innovative simulation tool designed to facilitate the deployment of inclusive and accessible CCAM services.
This cross-project interaction highlighted the importance of integrating perspectives from safety, inclusivity, and technology development to create mobility solutions that are not only efficient but also equitable and user-centered.
Looking Ahead: Continued Collaboration for Safer and More Inclusive Mobility
The discussions and demonstrations at the SINFONICA workshop reinforced the need for ongoing collaboration among EU-funded projects. AWARE2ALL is committed to engaging with fellow initiatives to ensure that automated mobility systems prioritize safety, inclusivity, and innovation.
We extend our gratitude to the SINFONICA project for organizing this event and to IRT SystemX for hosting us. Events like these serve as a reminder that collective efforts and shared expertise are key to shaping the future of safe and accessible mobility for all.
Stay tuned for more updates on AWARE2ALL’s progress and upcoming collaborations!
